Stop the Data Stress: Use AI Without Violating Privacy Rules!
Try Out My Tool for Text Anonymization
Dear fellow,
Anyone working in a business context, especially dealing with European regulations, knows this: Data protection and data security are constant companions. As a Communication Manager myself, I face this challenge almost daily, particularly here in Germany. We want to leverage the benefits of modern AI tools, but most providers are based outside the EU. This almost automatically means that any data entered ends up in a "third country," which requires special caution under GDPR. In my day-to-day work, I often found it incredibly annoying and exhausting to manually anonymize texts – press releases, internal memos, strategy papers – before I could confidently feed them to an AI. Since I, as a text professional, knew best what was needed to work efficiently, the solution became clear: I had to develop a tool myself!
Our Data: More Than Just Currency – A Responsibility
This experience highlights a central theme in our digital work environment: data autonomy. It's not just that our data is a valuable resource for tech companies, especially for training AIs. It's also about our responsibility to handle sensitive information carefully – customer data, employee details, internal strategies. Complying with data protection guidelines isn't optional; it's mandatory, especially in a professional setting. Careless handling can not only erode trust but also lead to legal consequences.
The Uncontrolled Flow of Data in Daily Work
The problem intensifies because we often lose track of where "our" data ends up. Even if I meticulously check what I input into an AI, what about the drafts I share with colleagues? What happens to information in shared documents or project management tools? Sensitive details can quickly and unintentionally land in systems that don't meet stringent data protection standards like GDPR. Therefore, conscious and careful handling of names, company names, locations, and other identifiable data is essential.
Anonymization: From Time Sink to Quick Fix
The need is clear, but the execution? Manually replacing names and facts in long texts is not only tedious but also prone to errors. It's easy to miss something, and the time commitment is significant. That's why many skip this step – a risk most would rather not take. This is exactly where my solution comes in, born out of personal necessity and the desire to finally simplify this process. I created a tool – with a little AI assistance during programming – that overcomes this hurdle.
Your New Helper in the Data Privacy Jungle: The Anonymizer
Introducing: the "Anonymizer." A simple, web-based tool designed to take the anonymization burden off your shoulders. You enter the data you want to protect (names, companies, places, etc.) just once. The tool scans your text and intelligently replaces them with suitable, random placeholders – fantasy names, fictitious companies, made-up places. Conveniently, you can also choose to anonymize numbers (think birth dates or budgets) and even activate automatic detection and replacement of declined names (different grammatical cases).
You can now send the anonymized text to your AI without worry. The AI only works with the harmless placeholders. Paste the AI's output back into the Anonymizer, click "De-Anonymize" – and you get your final text back with all the correct original data. Secure, fast, and straightforward.
The most crucial aspect for me was the data security of the tool itself: All data you enter stays with you. It is stored exclusively locally in your browser. None of it ends up on my webspace, let alone with the AI provider. Your data, your control – even when using my tool.
End the Anonymization Frustration!
I invite you to try the Anonymizer yourself. Make your workday easier and harness the power of AI without compromising on data protection.

By the way, on my site textkonfetti.de, you'll find other useful tools related to text. I'm currently working on translating the entire site into English to make it accessible to a broader audience.
Give the Anonymizer a try – I’m eager to hear your feedback!
